2023-2024 STARTALK Pilot Chinese and Korean Program Key Personnel
Dr. Jing Paul (张老师) is an associate professor of Chinese at Agnes Scott College. She has been a STARTALK program director since 2017, with experience working with teachers and students of diverse backgrounds. Dr. Paul received her Ph.D. in East Asian Languages & Literatures with a focus on Chinese Language & Linguistics from the University of Hawai‘i. She believes language learning is inseparable from authentic cultural experiences and advocates incorporating social justice into language education.
Ms. WeiHsuan Lo
WeiHsuan Lo (罗老师) is a Ph.D. student in the Technology, Innovation, and Pedagogy Program at the University of Northern Colorado. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree with University Honor Scholar in Business Administration from Colorado State University and a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from the National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan. Ms. Lo is an experienced Chinese language Instructor, and she has taught Chinese at the College of Holy Cross (MA), Hunter College Flagship Center (NYC), and University of Minnesota Twin Cities & Flagship Program (MN). Ms. Lo’s expertise and research disciplines are in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, and Second/Foreign Language teaching.
Mr. Kevin Fedewa
Kevin Fedewa (章老师) is a Ph.D. Student at Michigan State University (MSU) in the Second Language Studies program. He has an MA in Chinese Studies from Valparaiso University and an MA in TESOL from MSU. He has been teaching Mandarin Chinese at the college level since 2010 and has led study abroad programs to mainland China and Taiwan, and he has also taken on administrative and coordinator roles since 2013.
Dr. Adelia Kim
Dr. Adelia Kim (김혜수) is a native Korean speaker and K-12 education expert. Dr. Kim was born in South Korea and raised in Brazil. She advocates bilingual education to prepare all American children to become global citizens. Her educational philosophy is to prepare her students to live and work successfully in multicultural environments. Dr. Kim holds an EdD degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University. She has been teaching at Arabia Mountain High School since 2011.
Ms. Heewon Lee
Heewon Lee (이희원), a native of South Korea, is a Georgia-certified P-12 World Language Korean Teacher, Georgia-certified K-5 Elementary Teacher, and an Adjunct Korean Instructor at Georgia State University (GSU), Dunwoody. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Chuncheon National University of Education in South Korea and her master’s degree in World Language Education from GSU. Heewon was an elementary school teacher for about eight years in Korea. After moving to the United States, she started teaching at a Korean school and managed the school as an assistant principal for more than eight years. She has taught both Korean language and K-pop classes at GSU.
